I been wearing my hoops, I been wearing my big ol' silver hoops. I been walking 'round the house in 'em babe, I been chilling on the couch in 'em. I'm accenting with socks. I'm accenting with brightly colored socks. I been putting a show on for me babe, I'm the only one who knows it. It's whatever we feel. It's whatever we wanna do. It's whatever we feel, whatever we wanna do. It's whatever we feel. It's whatever we wanna do. It's whatever we feel, whatever we wanna do. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna, here's the band! I been closing up shop. I been winning when they said that I would not. I been standing up to all of 'em babe, I been answering the call for 'em. I quit playing them games, you can address me by all three of my names. Cuz I'm getting official about it babe, I been all kinds of diligent. Now its just what I feel. Its whatever I wanna do. It's whatever I feel badabada whatever I wanna do. It's whatever I feel. Its whatever I wanna do. It's whatever I feel, whatever we wanna do. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. And if you don't agree, I'm gonna keep doing me. Keep doing you though, cuz that's important too. Its whatever you feel, its whatever you wanna do. Its whatever you feel, its whatever you wanna do. It's the thing that you want. I didn't make it to the end, graduate, get a job with all my friends. And I get all kinds of sad when I think about it, I get all kinds of sorry for it. But can ya catch my vibe? Long rides with the people in my tribe. Coming to put a show on for ya babe! Go tell everyone you know about it. If ya don't know, I'm gonna tell you about it. It's whatever we feel. It's whatever we wanna do. It's whatever we feel, badabada whatever we wanna do. It's whatever we feel, whatever we wanna do. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. It's just the thing I wanna do its the thing I wanna do, I'm doing it. It's whatever we feel. It's whatever we wanna do. It's whatever we feel, whatever we wanna do.

I'm about to tell a story that I haven't yet, about the most intelligent woman that I ever met. She looked like Jackie Onassis. Top of her classes, and I'm doing my best just passing by. I'm so funny in my body I can barely walk. I'm so full of them funny feeling I can barely talk, and here comes Jackie Onassis. Don't need to ask it, but have you ever seen a woman so fine? She said 'Come on out, just a couple hours. We gonna have a real good time." And I say 'Where ya going? Where ya going? When ya coming home?" Somebody in the front seat calls out 'Everyone quit wasting my time! Gotta hit the road and hit the road, hit the road." There they go and there they go and I was on my own. I aint never spoke my mind up in a crowded place, I aint got no cool demeanor and smooth talking ways. Cuz I aint like Jackie Onassis. Girls in sunglasses looking me up like Im part of some game. Well the altercation happened round the 10th of May. Some poorly dressed spectator had something unkind to say, it comes back to me in flashes. I get risky, there's a swing and a miss and I'm all ashamed. When she found me I was in pieces crying hard into my hat, she tell me "Mama you look lovely when you take a stand" I tell her "No one's ever been so kind to me and I thank you for that." She said "Here ya go and here ya go, here ya go." Took her hair out a bow and put that ribbon in my hand. Here we go! Look at that lady. She carries herself right, singing ah ah ah. She's the first lady, to walk me through the night she's singing ah ah ah. Oh play it, play it, play. I got sunny days on the track field, laughing hard just me and mine. Got a great part in the spring play after all. I got my rose pink tinted glasses and they fit me just fine. And I let it go and let it go, let it go. Babada babadada babada babadaba baba. Here we go! Look at that lady. She carries herself right, singing ah ah ah. She's the first lady, to walk me through the night she's singing ah ah ah. Look at that lady. She carries herself right, singing ah ah ah. She's the first lady, to walk me through the night she's singing ah ah ah. Look at that lady, Little Miss Thing! She carries herself right, singing ah ah ah. She's the first lady, hold my hand and walk me through the night she's singing ah ah ah. Look at that lady. She carries herself right, singing ah ah ah. She's the first lady, to walk me through the night she's singing ah ah ah.

Woke up nearly 6 ‘o clock, it was our last day in Vermont, one of us was still missing. Staying at Tommy’s place doing nothing but playing for no pay and anybody who wanted to listen. Tommy had a buddy had turned twenty-one at midnight just a couple hours before. I look to my left, seen him wake up laughing on a blanket on some bullshit, all alone on the living room floor. I keep a portrait in my pocket of myself the year I got stung by that silly man. You can see the first in my eyes as he fired off to no surprise, he didn’t come to give a damn. And the bottle of merlot fell over when he got up to go and he finally slammed the door. Wait, what have we got left? Seen it come up easy, blood and baking soda scrubbing at the rug on my living room floor. I am in my own lane, I will not let myself down. I am in my own lane, I am my own house When that old man come to visit he said ‘Is it ever tough to look back? Does it get too loud?’ ‘Do you ever wish you could have done the things you never done? Are you sentimental mama, are you proud?’ ‘And you didn't have to order out for me, I know it’s something that you can’t afford. Have you got any left?’ I tell him ‘babe I made this, with my own hands, ain't it something?’ Sitting cross-legged, because we haven’t got a table yet. Saving up, gonna get a few chairs, gonna get a whole set. I’ve got my bed and my closet and a living room floor. Woah I got a living room floor, and I got it deep down in my soul.

How do I say what you already know? Talk with my hands maybe take it real slow? Como se dice en español? ¿A dónde vas después del show? I get a vibe from you honey. Cloudy days walking ‘round feeling sunny. I’m a smooth talking lady what it comes to everybody but you. Aint that funny? (So funny!) And when I rise in the morning, there I find you on my mind without warning. Ooh and then there’s nothing left I can do, every time you come through. Woah, I see you there with your ball-cap and button up jeans. Mamita, you can’t rush a good thing. We'll take your time by all means, woah. And now we’re walking real slow on the pavement together. Wanna hit you with the heavy while you’re talking ‘bout the weather. I’m telling you I wanna, y no me dices nada, can’t tell what it means. How do I say what you already know? Talk with my hands maybe take it real slow? Como se dice en español? ¿A dónde vas después del show? Working the words out and walking your way, hoping it works out and maybe someday.. You’ll let me know that it’s all ok. Creo lo sientes, pero no se. Hola papa. ¿Qué paso? Hola mami, pasa nada.

I get nervous when the girls dress in their summer clothes and anxious when the boys where all them button ups and sports jackets. I wore a T-shirt to a family party, everybody overreacted. There comes a point when hiding out in all them haunted hallways and hidden staircases , don’t make you feel like a grown woman anymore. And it’s true, and I’m sorry. You can feel it, you can see it in your hands and eyebrows. You aint a kid now, but mama don’t you wish you could. Lay out that summer sun just getting freckles on your daddy’s Chevrolet car hood. Ooh there comes a point, when spinning ‘round and walking sideways and taking ten paces don’t make you feel like it’s your birthday anymore. And it’s true, and I’m sorry. And I’m talking about my love, it’s not what you’re thinking of. Woah… Let’s throw a party! Somebody’s turning thirty. Ooh and we aint looked this good, sing we don’t even know since when. Let’s throw a party! I finally made some money. Ooh, and can you dig it baby? I finally dig myself again. Oooh my love! (My love!) Talking about my love! (My love!) Talking about my love! (My love!) And it’s true, and I’m sorry! Where does it go? As we grow old? Fighting for time, finding what’s mine.
